Culture & World View
Having an open view of the world filled with current events, history, and culture is something that I strive to implement in the classroom. After furthering my Hispanic Studies coursework in college, as well as an international study in South America, my world views have been influenced drastically. Through many lessons inside and outside of the classroom, I have held onto my experience as something I strive to emulate. Being in a classroom is an experience, but it is a walled, box of a world that students live day-to-day. Literature and/or literacy is a way to bring the world, new ideas, new experiences, and many cultures to the students. It allows students to look through multiple lenses, and dig into deeper meanings through critical thinking. By seeing and experiencing the world using technology, literature, and conversations, students will be driven by curiosity, and in turn find their own, personal motivation for growth and learning, because that's what the world can do. Sometimes, the greatest lessons are taught outside the classroom.
With that ideal in mind, my Hispanic Studies course work as also allowed me to develop my Spanish language skills to a level that is conversational. I am able to read, write, and understand intermediate levels of Spanish language, and hold a conversation when necessary. I would love to continue learning and improve my fluency of the language even though I have graduated from the University.
